Scythe is Charnel's level 1 creature.
Creature Information[]
Summary[]
- "Scythes are deadly in combat. They feed off the creatures they slice up, restoring their health with every attack. But they can be picked off by spells and can’t attack flying creatures, so making sure they get into combat is the real trick." – Zyzyx, The Gods Themselves (Charnel)
The creature is obtained along with Fallen, Locust and Insect Swarm and in campaign is received in Charnel's first mission. It shares its unit model with Cog.
Name Etymology[]
Scythes receive their name from the preferred weapon of the Grim Reaper. Also in the concept art they are named Scyths (without the "e").
Species[]
Not much is known about Scythes. It is assumed that they are a creation of Charnel, as they serve him exclusively. It is uncertain if they are the corrupted versions of Cogs, but this seems implausible due to their non-mechanical, but rather bony structure. It is more probable they come from one of Charnel's sources for his minions – the dead.

Strategies[]
The Scythe is a very sub par unit compared to the rest of the Level 1 Melee creatures. The Scythe has less health than the rest of the units, even less than the Frostwolf.
In multiplayer, the Scythe sees very little usage. This creature is able to be killed instantly by any Basic Attack spell, including Wrath, which only does 10 more damage than it's full health. It only regains health when attacking, which means the Scythe will have to be up close to have any significant use. It does however have a fast attack speed, which comes in useful for tearing down Manaliths.
The low level Necromancers would be wise to invest their souls in other units. Even if the enemy has mostly ranged units, the opposing wizard will usually be able to take care of your Scythes, and the frail Scythes wont be able to defend themselves from a distance. Scythes are very easy targets for flyers as well.
