- The Holy War is over. The demons of Gologotha[sic] have been banished, yet the cost has been terribly high. The Creator, god of the Fyllid, has been defeated and the faith of the people has begun to wane. Petty squabbles among the five remaining gods has caused the land to split into five mystical territories - each at war with one another. Into this divided land steps a wizard, a man haunted by his past, whose choices will shape the future.
Which god will he choose? Will he sacrifice himself to change this world for the better, or will what remains of this world be sacrificed for one god's glory? – Sacrifice's Box Art
Missions are integral parts of Sacrifice's campaign. They are tasks performed by Eldred (the playable protagonist) for the five traditional gods.
Campaign Structure[]
There are nine levels, and only one mission for one god can be accessed per one level, so while there are 45 missions, a single playthrough of the campaign is made up of only nine missions.
These missions are preceded by the campaign's prologue (and an optional set of three tutorials). Before each mission there is an intermission (making a total of nine intermissions), when the player can choose a god to follow for the next mission. There are also two mandatory interludes, one between the fourth mission and fifth mission, and another between the seventh mission and eighth intermission. The nine regular missions are then followed by the finale and the entire campaign is then concluded with credits.
Mission Restrictions[]
As the campaign progresses, you will gain Karma points with gods you by either finishing missions for them or by facilitating their agendas. This is usually also accompanied by a boon from that god. You lose Karma by ignoring a god or working against a god. If your Karma with a god gets too low, that god will refuse to give you missions. As the campaign continues and animosity between gods increases, they will grow suspicious of the player, and later on the player will be given the option of serving one to two gods at most.
At no time do all gods refuse to grant player missions.
Replay Value[]
Sacrifice has great replay value. Even though there are five gods and nine missions (meaning that almost two million different spellbook combinations exist), due to Karma and assorted mission restrictions, there are "only" 172890 different ways to finish a playthrough of Sacrifice's campaign.
