Multiplayer game settings in Sacrifice can be modified to a great extent, always allowing new experiences when playing the game.

After you have clicked Multiplayer in the main menu, created or selected a character in the Character Roster and chosen which kind of connection you're going to use (Local Game, LAN, Internet or TCP/IP) you're led to the Game Lobby Screen and the Game Settings Menu.

Inside of the Menu, there are three separate windows:

  • One with which you get to choose game details (provided that you are the game host),
  • Second with which you get to choose the player details,
  • And the final with which you can chat with the other players.

The three windows: Player to the left, Game to the right and Chat at the bottom.

Player Window[]

There are five player slots which, depending on the players allowed on the map you're going to play, can all be taken. Inside each slot there are four circles and two bars.

Player Slot[]

The first circle from the left. It only indicates which slot, from 1 to 5, you are currently occupying. If fewer then 5 players are allowed, a picture of a lock will appear instead of the number. The locked slot can still be taken, but only by observers. By clicking on the circle of the other empty slots, you are transferred to that slot.

Player Type[]

The second circle from the left. If you have taken a slot, a picture of a face will appear indicating that a human player has occupied that slot. If set to open by the host (picture of an open gate), any player from the lobby can join the game on that slot. If set to closed (picture of a closed gate) this slot will of course be blocked. It will also be blocked if a computer player is placed in the slot. It will be pictured same as the face a human player would receive, but it will have a glowing brain, resembling a manahoar, indicating the computer's AI.

Player Team[]

The third circle from the left. Here you can choose your team. You can choose team 1, 2 or 3, probably depending on the pre-arranged number of your team. It can also be set to none (pictured by a question mark), meaning that you will be hostile to everyone else.

Player Readiness[]

The fourth circle from the left. Before the game can start every player needs to hit this button (changing it from a thumbs down to a thumbs up picture). Computer players are always set to ready. When playing a Local game all player are always set to ready.

Player Name[]

The upper bar. Shows the name of the wizard you have selected in the Character Roster. If a computer player is playing, the game will randomize the name from a set of names.

Player Affiliation[]

The lower bar. Here you can choose your spellbook. You can either choose from one of the five standard gods, your own custom spellbook (if the host allows for them) or, if you've finished the campaign, a spellbook of one of your single player characters. You can also choose to be an observer.

Game Window[]

It only shows the game settings chosen for the game to be played with. But if the button below the window with "Game Settings" is clicked these settings can be altered.

Map Selection[]

In this window you can see all the maps you currently have in your "maps" folder in Sacrifice's directory and can choose one for the following game. If you haven't created or downloaded any additional maps you should have the standard map pack. If one of your fellow players does not have the map you chose a download of the map will begin as soon as they join you game.

Game Type[]

  • Skirmish — The standard game. The objective is to desecrate all of your enemies' altars. It is the only type of game that doesn't have a counter next to it.
  • Slaughter — The objective of the game is to reach a certain kill count before everyone else. The kill count can vary between 1 and 999.
  • Soul Harvest — The objective of the game is to obtain a certain number of souls before everyone else. The soul count can vary between the number of "Starting Souls" and 999. Be careful not to set the number at a value higher than the number of possible souls on the map.
  • Domination — The objective of the game is to take control of certain number of Mana Fountains by building manaliths on top of them, before anyone else does. The manalith count can vary between 1 and 999. Be careful not to put the number at a value higher than the number of possible manaliths on the map.

Tick-selection Settings[]

  • Random Altar — All the altars have fixed locations (on the map Altar 1 will belong to the player in the slot 1). Ticking this will randomize these altars.
  • Observers — Allows observers to join the game.
  • Observer Chat — Allows observers to chat amongst each other. "Observers" will need to be ticked beforehand.
  • Custom Spellbooks — Allows custom spellbooks to be used.
  • Allied Vision — Grants shared vision amongst allies.
  • Collect Allied Souls — Allies are able to collect the souls of dead creatures among themselves.
  • Friendly Fire — If this one is ticked, damage done by your own units can hurt your own or even your ally's units. Likewise, your allies can hurt you.
  • Always Gib — If this one is ticked, whenever a creature is killed, it's gibbed: its body is destroyed in a rain of blood and gore and its soul is collectible by everyone.
  • No Map Creatures — Any creature previously placed by the map's designer is removed before the game starts.
  • No Map Souls — Any blue souls previously placed by the map's designer is removed before the game starts.
  • Reveal Blue Souls — Blue souls are visible on the mini-map right from start of the game.

Scale-bar Settings[]

  • Starting Souls — Sets the number of souls each wizard receives at the beginning of the game. Can vary between 0 and 24.
  • Minimum Level — Sets the level of each wizard at the beginning of the game. Can vary between 1 and 9. Cannot be higher than the Maximum Level.
  • Maximum Level — Sets the level that each wizard can ultimately reach through experience. Can vary between 1 and 9. Cannot be lower than the Minimum Level.
  • AI Damage Multiplier — Damage done by computer players is multiplied by the chosen number. Can vary between 0,50 to 2,00.
  • Gib Chance — Can change the chance to gib a creature. At 1,00 the chance is as usual. Can vary between 0,00 to 4,00. At 0,00 creatures can't be gibbed.
  • XP Rate — Can change the rate of experience gained by killing enemy units. Can vary between 0,00 to 4,00. At 0,00 no experience is gained.
  • Friendly Damage — Can change the amount of damage received by friendly units. Can vary between 0,00 to 2,00. At 0,00 friendly fire is off.

Chat Window[]

In this window you can type your own messages to your fellow players and receive theirs. To send a message, click on the message bar, type in your message and simply push the Enter button. Your message will be displayed alongside others and you'll be able to scroll up and down to see all the messages.
